Press Release Body = The Hurricane Relief Auction for Gulf Coast Fishermen has ended.
Everyone at \"Sport Fishing\", \"Marlin\", and \"Fly Fishing in Salt Waters\" magazines
thanked Maverick Charters Ltd., a Cape Cod charter fishing boat, and all the other
donors who helped raise $40,058. for our fishing friends in the Gulf of Mexico who
have been impacted by the 2005 hurricane season. The contribution by Maverick
Charters was a day of fishing for stripers and blues and had a high bid of $400.
This trip includes sailing from beautiful Allen Harbor Marine in Harwich Port, MA to
fish the fabled rips of Monomoy.
The proceeds from this auction are going to \"Guide for the Gulf\" which provides
financial assistance to charters, guides and others within the fishing industry who
are in need. This program directly benefits the members of the fishing industry who
have been adversely affected by Hurricane Katrina - people who now face a long
uncertain future in light of the economic and environmental impact this disaster
will ultimately have.
\"Guide for the Gulf\" has been established by \"Fly Fishing Trade\" magazine to
initiate a nationwide, industry-supported campaign to raise money and clothing
donations, specifically targeted to benefit sport fishing captains and related
outdoor businesses and their families who have essentially lost everything.
The Cape Cod charter fishing industry was very fortunate in 2005. The Northeast
coast was brushed by the tail end of these catastrophic storms creating an
inconvenience versus a disaster. However, with the current weather patterns
predicted to continue for many years, Cape Cod\'s future could still be in the path
of a severe storm. Hopefully, New England\'s fishing community will receive the same
compassion and generosity as received by the Gulf States.
